On the road by bike
Whether by road bike, mountain bike or e-bike - the region around Braies offers ideal conditions for anyone who likes to get out and about on two wheels. Fresh mountain air and impressive landscapes make every tour a highlight.
Getting to Lake Braies
The best way to get there is to take the Val Pusteria train to Villabassa. Bicycles can be taken on the regional trains.
Route: From Villabassa to the lake
From Villabassa railroad station, first take the Val Pusteria cycle path towards Brunico (i.e. eastwards). After about 2 km, at the level of the old military area, the path turns left into the Braies valley. The route now leads uphill along quiet side roads and cycle paths through the valley - past the villages of Außerprags and Schmieden. From Schmieden, the route runs along the official road, which is closed to cars from 10:00-16:00 in summer - perfect for cyclists! After around 12 km, you reach the Braies lake, which is surrounded by steep rock faces and dense forests.
