Strudelkopf

Difficulty: middle Length: 17.6 km Duration: 3:46 h Altitude meters: 1720 hm

Easy ski tour, also ideal for beginners.

The route starts on the well-prepared former war road or winter hiking trail, leads to the Dürrensteinhütte (Rifugio Vallandro) and then runs over relatively flat terrain along the winter hiking trail to the Strudelkopf.

First, the winter hiking trail with impressive views of the Kristallo massif leads to the Dürrensteinhütte/Rif. Vallandro (2040m) and the "Werk Plätzwiese" fort dating back to the First World War. After the hut, the trail leads through easily accessible open terrain over the Strudelkopfsattel to the summit of the Strudelkopf.

From the summit, there is a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding famous mountain peaks, including the Three Peaks, Hohe Gaisl, Tofana and Monte Cristallo. The section from Schluderbach to the Dürrensteinhütte is generally quieter, while from the hut onwards there are many winter hikers from the Prato Piazza. The skiing fun is limited to a few turns above the Dürrensteinhütte. In less than ideal snow conditions, however, the route from the hut usually offers a good road down to the valley.

The tour is also ideal as a winter or snowshoe hike.
