From Prato Piazza to the Dürrenstein

Difficulty: easy Length: 7.5 km Duration: 2:00 h Altitude meters: 1740 hm

Easy ski tour, but one of the most beautiful, easily accessible viewpoints in the Dolomites. Start from a high starting point, therefore also possible late in spring.

Route description: Start at the large PP in front of the Prato Piazza hut (approx. 2000m). Immediately up to the left and then over a steep step covered with mountain pines to the now flatter summit slope. We approached the steep step at approx. 2200 m possibly a little too far to the right, see GPS recording, with better covered mountain pines it is certainly easier to get through further to the left. Now always on a mostly flat track to the pre-summit and a ski depot here. The onward route to the slightly higher summit cross is also possible on skis. Magnificent panoramic view: starting from the right, Seekofel, Hohe Gaisl, Monte Cristallo, Drei Zinnen and the entire Sexten Dolomites, with the Rieserferner group and the Deferegger mountains to the north.

On the descent, we kept far to the left and took advantage of the more westerly slopes, as we only left in the afternoon. This meant we were able to ski on the best firn snow at the beginning of April and not in slushy snow. Descent to the sun terrace of the Prato Piazza hut.
